Nursing Education Science: Nursing Simulation
At MCN’s Nursing Simulation Lab, our priority is providing quality learning experiences to promote nursing student competence. We are committed to using simulation best practices in our program.
Our core faculty and staff receive intensive training by simulation experts. Faculty and staff regularly attend and present at international simulation conferences and participate in ongoing professional development.
To advance the science of simulation, we actively conduct research to improve our student outcomes, improve our simulation program, and ultimately, impact patient outcomes. Our research aligns with the National League for Nursing’s Research Priorities in Nursing Education.
Current research and projects include:
- Evaluation of the effect of a simulation intervention on medication administration competence
- Evaluation of the effect of expert role modeling on competence
- Evaluation of a dedicated psychomotor skills for nursing course
- Development and evaluation of a faculty training program with guidance from the Center for Medical Simulation
- Collaborations with the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences’ Child Life Program to provide interdisciplinary simulation experiences
- Collaboration with Department of Mathematics to create a digital student evaluation tool and database
