Coursework Requirements for Nursing
The following coursework requirements are needed to transfer into Illinois State University's BSN program. These must be completed prior to admission into the College of Nursing, but are not required at the time of application.
- General education requirements – A minimum of 55 credit hours, of which 37 credit hours must be IAI general education, should be complete prior to fall enrollment.

Nursing Prerequisites
Below is the list of nursing prerequisites. Courses require a C or better to fulfill the requirement. Course numbers listed relate to the Illinois State University course catalog. The institution you are transferring from maybe catalog their equivalent courses differently. For course equivalents, please refer to our transferability resources below.

Work with Your Academic Advisor
Work closely with an academic advisor at your current college or university to determine what courses you need and build a plan that prepares you for transferring to ISU. When you speak with your advisor, tell them you will need: (1) IAI general education requirements to transfer to 4-year university and (2) equivalent courses for ISU's 9 nursing prerequisites .
Please note that you do not need all coursework complete at the time you apply; it just needs to be done by the time you start the program.

IAI General Education Worksheet

This tool provides a complete report you can keep for your records, and it's great for figuring out anything you may be missing as you prepare to transfer.
Transferability Form
Accepted applicants who complete prerequisite courses that transfer into Illinois State University as a major elective or non-major elective instead of as the Illinois State University prerequisite course numbers listed above may prepare a Transferability Form and submit it to Mennonite College of Nursing for review. Information received will be reviewed by the Associate Dean for Student Services. Transferability Forms available via download below or by calling (309) 438-7400. This form must also be completed for nursing courses completed at another bachelor-level nursing college. No evaluation can be made of any courses, however, without a completed application.
