Peter A. & Ella G. Schertz Endowed Scholarship
The Peter A. and Ella G. Schertz Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 as a part of the acquisition of Mennonite College of Nursing by Illinois State University. This scholarship fund was created out of the monies that Beulah (Schertz) Roth and Velma Schertz had given to Mennonite College of Nursing beginning in the 1970s for the purpose of establishing private student loan funds as a living memorial to Beulah and Velma’s parents, Peter and Ella Schertz.
Beulah Schertz Roth graduated from Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing in 1930. Velma Schertz graduated from Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing in 1935.
The purposes of the Peter A. and Ella G. Schertz Endowed Scholarship Fund are to reduce financial disability as a barrier which may prevent an individual from enrolling at Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University and to promote a spirit of brotherhood, sharing, and servanthood towards mankind.
